Piesa nu este cel de-al doilea single oficial lansat de pe album, insa este disponibila pentru download celor care au precomandat 1989. Chiar si asa, Taylor Swift a spus ca Out of the Woods este reprezentativa pentru album per ansamblul sau. Cantareata a lucrat alaturi de Jack Antonoff (de la Bleachers si chitarist fun.), in timp ce productia pe partea de voce a fost realizata de Max Martin.
