The Cat Empire: „Avem influente din muzica tiganeasca” (interviu)

Trupa australiana The Cat Empire va concerta pe 31 iulie la Arenele Romane. Pana atunci, vezi un interviu exclusiv cu ei in care ne-au vorbit si despre influentele romanesti pe care le au in muzica lor.

1. Hey guys! Where are you right now and where are you headed next?
In Madrid, headed to Portugal tomorrow. Nice and hot.

2. What are your first thoughts when it comes to Romania?
Great music.

3. What about Romanian music, do you know any?
We have some influences in our sound, but very light…. but yes of course we have heard the amazing tonalities and rhythms of the tzigane music from your area…

4. You have a lot of latin influences in your music, how did that come about?
It’s just something we are into. We are not Latin American ourselves… but we have lots of brass and percussion so it’s always going to happen with those instruments.

5. You played almost 1000 shows live. How do you keep it fresh and what do you do to keep it interesting for the people in the band?

We improvise a lot. There is no set form, things change depending on the vibe, the crowd, our mood, your mood. So it never really gets boring. We have as little idea as anyone else about how things are going to go…

6. Are we going to hear any new songs for you show in Romania?
You will hear lots of new music. But the songs are pretty much the same.

7. Do you still get nervous when playing new songs?
Not really. Sometimes I get nervous but it’s not because a song is new. It’s just… sometimes you just get nervous.
