Cunoscut la noi indeosebi pentru hitul „Ride It„, Jay Sean a lansat pana in prezent 2 albume. A scos recent un nou single, „Down„, feat Lil Wayne. Mai multe detalii despre proiectele sale va invit sa aflati chiar de la el din interviul ce urmeaza. 😉
Pyuric: I love to start all my interviews with the same question: how important do you think online promotion is?
Jay Sean: Online promotion has become probably one of the most… I think after the radio has become one of the most important things. Probably even THE most important thing! You can go all over the world online… I know it helped me so much because it allowed me to get music concerts in countries which didn’t even have my album! Countries like China, Australia, in Africa and all these places. But because of the Internet I’m able to make concerts there. So… huge influence!
Pyuric: I found about your new single with Lil Wayne („Down”) on the Internet, because it isn’t promoted yet here… How did you end up collaborating with Cash Money Records and Lil Wayne?
Jay Sean: I have been working on my album my own ways, which I did at my own record label, and I put that album out all across the world, apart America. America is a huge separate animal, a whole other thing… Luckily, I got discovered by Cash Money Records. They heard about me and what I was doing… I got a phonecall from the boss and he flew me to Miami… I loved the whole company, the way they worked, I thought this would be the right home from me. They loved my project, they didn’t wanna change anything about it, they just said „keep doing what you do, it’s amazing”. So then I got signed by Cash Money Records… And Lil Wayne is signed by Cash Money… So the collaboration was gonna be inevitable. Luckily, he loved the track, I don’t think he would have get on if he didn’t.
Pyuric: So when’s the video coming?
Jay Sean: The video is gonna be out probably next week!
Pyuric: What about a new album?
Jay Sean: This is gonna be my first album in America, but I think it might be my third album in the rest of the world… It’s gonna be a brand new album. We’re gonna put like 4 of the old songs on it, from „My own way” like my singles „Ride it”, „Stay”, „Maybe”, „Tonight” and stuff like that, but otherwise it’s a brand new album.
Pyuric: Most of the artists only sell online now, because records aren’t sold anymore…
Jay Sean: America is old thinking, it’s different in America, because they still sell a lot of singles. They don’t believe in this thing that they don’t sell records anymore, because they do! They sell. They sold 3 million singles of Kevin Rudolf „Let it rock”… So they don’t believe in this whole… So… Yeah, it’s all digital, but they still believe that people will buy it. If you have and old fan base, people will buy it. And so…their track records seem to be good.
But yes, I agree it’s all digital now and I think that’s the best way, I don’t think anybody buys a single on CDs anymore. If you wanna buy a single, you go to iTunes, it’s very easy, 99 cents in America and it’s very simple. I like the system in America: they put you on the radio and they keep you on the radio as long as people wanna hear it. As long as people keep hearing it, they keep buying it. It’s not like you come in the charts on number 10 and then start falling down… You can come in at 100 and climb all the way up to 1. That’s a very cool thing! Now I see my record go up up up up every day… Maybe when the video comes out it could be top 10? It gives you a lot of hope, you know!
Pyuric: Do you follow new media, what blogs write about you for example?
Jay Sean: I don’t like to read about myself. I was told very early on not to get caught up in this… Reading reviews, reading what other people think about you… To be honest, I don’t believe any of it anyway. You get some people to say „Aaa, Jay Sean, the best singer in the world„, but you get other people saying „Ughh, Jay Sean, he sucks, he’s rubbish!„. It means nothing! As long as you believe in yourself, you’re happy with who you are, you’re happy with your friends around you and your family… I don’t care what everybody says! You can’t let that get into your brain, cause that could really destroy some people… So I like to stay away from it.
Pyuric: What about what your fans say?
Jay Sean: All my fans write me in a different place though… I don’t go home tonight to read what YouTube comments are… I’ll read my MySpace, my Twitter, I read all of those things, cause those are my fans directly talking to me. They ask me a question like „Hey Jay, how come you released this single and not this song instead?”… that’s helpful to me! What’s not helpful is „Jay Sean’s face looks like a dog [?]”… I don’t read those kind of stuff!

Pyuric: Imi place sa incep majoritatea interviurilor cu aceeasi intrebare: Cat de importanta consideri ca este promovarea online?
Jay Sean: Promovarea online a devenit una dintre cele mai importante… Cred ca, dupa radiouri, a devenit cea mai importanta. Daca nu chiar CEA MAI importanta! Poti sa ajungi in toata lumea online… Pe mine cel putin m-a ajutat foarte mult deoarece mi-a permis sa am concerte in tari in care nici macar nu aparuse albumul meu! In tari precum China, in Australia, in Africa etc. Dar datorita Internetului am avut oportunitatea de a concerta acolo. Asadar… are o influenta imensa!
Pyuric: Da, despre noul tau single („Down” feat Lil Wayne) s-a aflat exclusiv online, deoarece in Romania inca nu este promovat in alt fel… Cum ai ajuns sa colaborezi cu Cash Money Records si Lil Wayne?
Jay Sean: Am lucrat la albumul meu in felul meu, l-am facut la propria casa de discuri, si l-am lansat in toata lumea, mai putin in America. America este total altceva… Din fercire, am fost descoperit de Cash Money Records. Au auzit despre mine si au vazut ceea ce fac… Am primit un telefon de la seful lor si am zburat pana in Miami… Mi-a placut intreaga companie, felul in care lucrau, am considerat ca asta ar fi ‘casa’ potrivita pentru mine. Le-a placut proiectul meu, n-au vrut sa schimbe nimic la el, mi-au spus doar sa fac in continuare ceea ce faceam pana atunci, deoarece este extraordinar. Asadar am semnat cu Cash Money Records… Lil Wayne are de asemenea contract cu Cash Money Records… Asadar, colaborarea era inevitabila! Din fericire, i-a placut piesa, altfel nu cred ca ar mai fi colaborat.
Pyuric: Cand apare videoclipul piesei?
Jay Sean: Cel mai probabil, saptamana viitoare!
Pyuric: Ceva noutati despre noul album?
Jay Sean: O sa fie primul meu album in America, dar al 3lea in restul lumii… O sa fie un album nou-nout. O sa punem 4 piese de pe cel vechi pe el, de pe „My Own Way”, piese precum „Ride It”, „Stay”, „Maybe”, „Tonight”, dar in afara de asta o sa fie un album intreg nou.

Pyuric: Urmaresti new media, urmaresti de exemplu ce scriu blogurile despre tine?
Jay Sean: Nu-mi place sa citesc ce se scrie despre mine. Mi s-a spus inca de la inceput sa nu ma prinda chestia asta… Citit de reviewuri, ce alti oameni cred despre tine… Ca sa fiu sincer, nici nu cred ceva din asta oricum. Cativa oameni spun „Aaaa, Jay Sean, cel mai tare cantaret din lume”, altii spun „Ughh, Jay Sean, e cel mai naspa, e gunoi”! E irelevant! Atata timp cat ai incredere in tine, esti fericit asa cum esti, esti fericit cu prietenii alaturi si cu familia… Nu-mi pasa ce spune toata lumea! N-ar trebui sa lasi asta sa te acapareze, deoarece te-ar putea distruge… Imi place sa stau deoparte, asadar.
Pyuric: Dar despre ceea ce spun fanii?
Jay Sean: Toti fanii imi scriu in locuri diferite… Nu ma duc acasa diseara sa citesc ce comentarii am mai primit pe YouTube. Imi voi citi insa MySpace-ul, Twitter-ul, toate astea, deoarece acolo sunt fanii care discuta direct cu mine! Daca ma intreaba o chestie precum „Hey Jay, cum se face ca ai lansat acel single si nu piesa asta in schimb?”… Asta ma ajuta! Ceea ce nu ma ajuta insa e „Fata lui Jay Sean arata ca un caine [?!]”… Nu citesc astfel de chestii!
